Although the Boston area of Dorchester is nothing more than a neighborhood today, it was a municipality in its own right. Dorchester, Massachusetts was named after the English county of Dorset by the Pilgrims that first came to America, and is fondly nicknamed “Dot” by residents today.

Dorchester is just south of downtown Boston and rests amid the communities of Quincy, South End, Mattapan, Roxbury, and Milton.
