Located in the northwestern region of Northampton, the village of Florence, Massachusetts is near both Westhampton and Williamsburg.
Florence was once called Broughton’s Meadow and housed 25 acres of mulberry trees for the purpose of raising silkworms. Soon, the silk mills opened, and eventually, the Corticelli Silk Company became one of the world’s largest silk thread producers.
Florence had a strong Abolitionist community and was a critical stop on the Underground Railroad. Local landmarks include Miss Florence Diner, Cooper’s Corner, and Bird’s Store. Florence is also home to Look Park, the largest park in the Northampton area.
