The North Shore community of Newbury, Massachusetts is comprised of three villages. Old Town is located in the center of Newbury. Plum Island, the easternmost point of Newbury and Byfield, is the home of The Governor’s Academy, a private preparatory school. As the community grew, a primary source of income was needed. Fishing stepped into the role as a primary industry. The industries that coincide with fishing became major contributors as well; shipbuilding, weaving, tanning, and shoemaking.
