During the Civil War, Holbrook became a major producer of shoes due to the pressing need for boots for the soldiers. Slowly, Holbrook started to transition into a residential community. Now, most of its residents commute into Boston for work. Holbrook was named after Elisha, N. Holbrook, who donated the town hall and library upon the town’s incorporation.
