Just a few miles north of Boston, the town of Medford, Massachusetts sits on the Mystic River. Two well-known holiday songs were written by Medford residents. James Pierpont was inspired to write “Jingle Bells” as he watched a sleigh race from Medford to Malden. Lydia Maria Child wrote a poem about her trip across town to her grandparents’ house, now the classic song “Over the River and Through the Woods”.
