The economic roots of Millis, Massachusetts started with a large base in agriculture and grazing, with the first mill being built in 1662. In the 1800s, more factories were created for a diverse amount of products; organ and organ pipes, paper, canning, and shoe factories.
Millis is nationally famous for the “Millis Lights”, displayed during the holiday season. These holiday lights and decorations are on the forty-acre Causeway Street Estate. In 2004, TV personality and weather meteorologist Al Roker traveled to Millis to do a segment on the light display. Since this publicity, the display has attracted thousands of visitors.
