DeCordova Sculpture Park & Museum |
Covering 35 acres and established in 1950, deCordova Sculpture Park is the largest park of its kind in New England and offers a series of ever-changing sculpture installations. DeCordova offers a flurry of year-round educational activities for families to experience art up close and personal. Hands-on inteactive activities and programs are available for all ages, from the youngest of toddlers to sculpture workshops for the teen in your life.
In 1930, Boston businessman Julian de Cordova donated his property, which was loaded with sculptures and other forms of visual art, to the town of Lincoln with the understanding that it would be open to the public after his death. The park was officially opened in 1950, after 5 years of trustee work. The initial years at deCordova established an new model for regional American museums by fusing the living arts with festivals, camps and classes.
Today the 35-acre park overlooks Sandy Pond and boasts more than 60 sculptures, multiple indoor galleries, and most recently, a nursery school. Permanent installations feture the works of such artists as George Rickey, Nam June Paik, Antony Gormley and Alexander Liberman. De Cordova has long lasting New England roots and is well loved by visitors from far and wide.
