South Acton includes the Fort Pond Brook, which was used to power mills in the eighteenth century. Today Jones Tavern is a still-standing revolutionary-era building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

East and North Acton are both mainly residential areas while North Acton is also home to North Acton Recreation Area. The North Acton Recreation Area includes a swimming pond, an open-air auditorium, recreational fields, and hiking trails.
