Charlestown, MA Business Real Estate Lodging History
Located on a peninsula between the Charles River and the Mystic River just north of downtown Boston, the neighborhood of Charlestown, Massachusetts was once a municipality in its own right before being annexed in 1874. Charlestown was the first capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and has long been called home by a strong Irish community. Charlestown was infamous for its Irish Mob between the 1960s and the 1990s, and was the site of gang wars between the McLaughlin Brothers and the Winter Hill Gang during the 1960’s.
Charlestown is home to such historic landmarks as the USS Constitution, the Charlestown Navy Yard, and Bunker Hill.
